Patients Can Ask Doctors for Prescription Help

It's not really a surprise that some people aren't taking their prescription drugs because they can't afford them. But a new report says patients aren't telling their doctors they're not taking their medications.

Those in the nationwide study say they don't discuss the issue because there wasn't enough time in the visit, they felt their provider couldn't help, or they were embarrassed.

Local physicians say if patients just ask, they can help.

Dr. David Cook, an Urgent Care physician at the Marshfield Clinic, says doctors can help patients by giving samples, prescribing something less costly, or directing them to other agencies or Web sites.
