Teachers Miss Out on Flu Shots

Teachers who are a part of this year's Northwestern Wisconsin Education Association's annual conference are being affected by the shortage of the flu vaccine.

Many of the 4,500 who came to the event were expecting to get the shot at Memorial High School as they had in years past.

This time around, the teachers found an empty classroom with a cancelled sign posted on the door.

"WINS was going to do our flu shots, but they get their supply from the company that had the defective serum," said Cheryl Hopkins, NWEA's Executive Secretary.

"Now they can't get it at all."

WINS stands for Wisconsin Industrial Nurses, the group that had been providing flu shots for several state agencies.

Hopkins said she's confident that NWEA will be able to offer the shots at next year's conference.
