Trial Date Set in Case Against Menards

Arguments will begin May 16 regarding charges the company improperly disposed of pollutants and hazardous waste.

Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager filed a criminal complaint against Menards last month alleging employees were dumping chemicals, including paint removal solvent and hydraulic fluid, down a floor drain.

That drain, according to the state, eventually leads into a tributary of the Chippewa River.

Menards denies the charges, saying they're motivated by the DNR seeking money and that the Attorney General is seeking personal gain.
