This giving season, there are many options for those buying presents for kids, but the Consumer Protection Agency is reminding buyers to be safe.

One of the first steps to make sure the toy is a good choice is to check manufacturing labels while in the store.

The package will list an age range that the toy is appropriate for, as well as whether it has certification for being non-toxic and if it has been tested for durability.

"Make sure you take into consideration age, interest and skill level of children," says Michelle Reinen, an investigator for the consumer protection agency.

Reinen adds, "Any gift should be a happy, safe and fun gift and that can only happen if and when it's used appropriately."
