Hospital Costs Rising

The Wisconsin Hospital Association estimates the cost to spend a night in the hospital will rise, on average, seven percent this year.

That's similar to increases over the last five years.

Just last week Luther Hospital announced its rates were increasing between eight to nine percent, depending on the service, bringing the total cost for one night to a minimum of $500.

Sacred Heart runs about $450 a night.

UW-Eau Claire health care administration professor, Jennifer Johs-Artisensis, says there are a host of reasons for the increases including the burgeoning numbers of uninsured, labor scarcity, low Medicare reimbursements and an aging population.
