The "Keep the Wreath Green" campaign runs from Thanksgiving through New Year’s. At each of the Eau Claire Fire Stations, a wreath of green bulbs is hanging outside. For every structure fire, one of the lights changes to red.
"There is a corresponding increase in structure fires this time of year nationally and locally and prevention is the best thing we can do," says Eau Claire Deputy Chief David Gee. "Get people thinking about it and maybe prevent some of these things."
Wednesday morning's house fire brings the total number of bulbs to five, which Gee says is more than last year's total at this time.
