More Federal Heating Aid For Wisconsin

Wisconsin is getting more money from the federal government to help poor people heat their homes.

Wisconsin is getting 3.5 million dollars in emergency heating aid for the poor. Overall, the federal government is sending states 100 million dollars.

That's in addition to more than one billion dollars sent to states in October as part of the Low-Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program.

The bulk of the money goes to cold-weather states in the Northeast and Midwest.

Members of Congress had pressed the Bush Administration to release more money for the program.

Utilities in Wisconsin cannot disconnect residences during the six-month cold weather season for nonpayment of heating bills.
