The UW-Milwaukee campus is starting the morning a little more protected Wednesday.

The school launched a new safety initiative adding five police officers, other security guards and two patrol cars to the campus force.

This comes after a rise in robberies and muggings near the university.

The $500,000 initiative also includes developing walking patrols and expanding the hours for the escort service to help students get to and from home safely.
