A problem has developed that may threaten the soybean crop. Soybean rust has been found in Louisiana.

The devastating disease eats away at the green tissue of the plant, reducing yields and seed quality.

Ag agents say if the disease spreads, it could be a big issue economically.

Dunn County's agent, Jim Faust, says farmers would have to spray for it, and if it isn't stopped, it could mean 70 percent crop losses.

He says the disease could affect Wisconsin in a couple of years.

It's believed soybean rust spores were carried to the U.S. from Central America during the hurricanes in the fall.
