Many school districts in the state are facing some tough decisions due to declining enrollments.

The Durand school district is looking over options as they face at least a three-quarter million dollar budget shortfall projected for next year.

Districts receive revenue based on student head-counts. Interim Superintendent Jerry Walters says Durand's enrollment has gone down over several years, leaving less money, but increasing expenses.

The school board will meet Wednesday night to talk about options.

One of them is to consolidate the three schools in the district.

Other options they'll discuss include cutting staff or programs that aren't mandated, or putting the issue up for referendum.
