More Budget Cuts

Governor Doyle has requested state agencies submit budgets that would be able to handle reductions of ten percent in staff and revenue.

But one state agency is saying they've done enough.

During the last two year budget, the University of Wisconsin system had $250 million cut from their budget, along with 650 jobs, the deepest of large state agencies.

UW-Eau Claire Chancellor Donald Mash says the university system has done their part already to help balance the state's budget.

"We're all stretched to the limit. We're limiting enrollments because we simply can't handle more students,” says Mash. "We can operate as a smaller and smaller entity but that would not be good news for Wisconsin."

Mash says lower enrollment means fewer people in Wisconsin with bachelor's degrees, which can translate to lower paying jobs.
