Dave Anderson is resigning as head of the bureau of Indian affairs after just one year on the job.
Anderson says he can do more to help Indian country by working in the private sector.
Anderson had removed himself from decisions on tribal recognition and Indian gambling to avoid the appearance of any conflict of interest.
Anderson started the Famous Dave's barbecue chain in Hayward.
He is the founder of Grand Casinos Incorporated.
