Joe Bee Xiong, a longtime Eau Claire Hmong community leader, says that the Hmong-American accused in the shooting deaths Sunday of six people in Sawyer County is "responsibile for what he did, but this does not mean the whole bag of apples is bad."

Xiong is a hunter, but he says he won't hunt for the remained of Wisconsin's gun deer season, which ends this coming Sunday, out of respect for the tragedy.

He concluded by saying the Eau Claire Hmong community unconditionally condemns the shootings, and "in no way represent the Hmong people and what we stand for."

Chai Vang, 36, of St. Paul, Minnesota is being held in the Sawyer County jail at Hayward on a two-and-a-half million dollar bail.
He claims he shot at the hunters after being threatened and called racial names. All of the victims are from Barron County and the Rice Lake area.
