Wisconsin U.S. Senator Russ Feingold from Wisconsin says he would consider running for president in 2008 if he had a real shot at winning the Democratic nomination.

Feingold tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel he's not interested in running just for fun. He says he's focused now on influencing the direction of the party and helping it rebound from its losses.

The third-term senator is best known nationally for co-authoring a campaign finance reform bill with Arizona Republican John McCain.

Feingold is in the process of setting up a leadership political action committee, a common vehicle for potential national candidates to receive campaign donations and fund their travel. Feingold easily won reelection in November over Republican first-time challenger Tim Michels.
