Mash to Leave UW-Eau Claire

UW-Eau Claire Chancellor Donald Mash is leaving after seven years on campus. He'll be re-locating to Madison, where he'll serve under UW-System President Kevin Reilly as Executive Senior Vice President of the system.

The Chancellor said his new job, which was recently created, is somewhat of a number two guy under Reilly, and that he'll have a direct role in government relations.

He spoke to a small group on campus Friday morning, saying his finest work was done on the UW-Eau Claire campus, but he's looking forward to examining the structure of the system over the next couple years and how it functions.

"I know it's going to be a challenge," Mash said, "But I think there are some things that can be done throughout the system and the state, and I think it will be exciting to be a part of that."

Mash will keep serving as chancellor through this month. He'll start his new job on March 1.

Meanwhile Reilly will reccomend that Doctor Vicki Lord Larson, a former UW-Eau Claire professor and retired UW-Oshkosh provost be named interim chancellor.

Mash said his wife Cynthia, who is a tenured professor and member of the Eau Claire Human Rights Council will finish the semester on campus before looking at the possibilities for her in Madison.
