A rainy spring and summer held down spending on tourism in Wisconsin last year.

New figures released at the Governor's Conference on Tourism this week show consumer spending in the tourism industry increased by less than one percent.

Spending at hotels, restaurants, shops, attractions and other tourism businesses was nearly 12 billion dollars in 2004.

Tourism Secretary Jim Holperin says the wet weather kept people off golf courses and away from water parks, marinas and other outdoor activities.

Governor Doyle is proposing an increase of nearly four million dollars for the Tourism Department's marketing budget. The 21% increase would be the first in six years
