Republican State Representative John Townsend of Fond du Lac introduced a bill yesterday that would allow tax cuts for Wisconsin residents who donate money to the tsunami relief effort.
If passed, the cuts would be in effect for all 2004 state tax returns.
On the federal level last week, President Bush signed legislation allowing people to claim deductions on all 2004 federal tax returns.
Townsend says he decided to introduce the legislation at the state level after his church pastor encouraged people to reach out to tsunami victims.
He says he hopes the bill will create more incentive for people who would not otherwise donate.
