Former U-S attorney J-B Van Hollen is promising to restore integrity to the attorney general's office as he officially kicked off his campaign Monday.

Van Hollen joins Waukesha County District Attorney Paul Bucher in seeking the Republican nomination to take on incumbent Peg Lautenschlager, a Democrat.

Van Hollen says Lautenschlager has failed to lead in her two years as attorney general and has not been a strong enough partner with local law enforcement officials.

He's a former district attorney in Ashland and Bayfield counties and appointed by President Bush in 2002 to U-S attorney for Wisconsin's 44-county Western District.

He quit that job in January, anticipating a run for Wisconsin attorney general.

Lautenschlager was arrested for drunken driving in her state car a year ago. She also paid a fine for misusing a state vehicle.
