Gunman Murders Seven, Takes His Own Life In Suburban Milwaukee

Seven people were murdered before a man killed himself at a church service at a Brookfield hotel.

Police have found no clear motive for why a man armed with a handgun opened fire during an evangelical church service. Brookfield Police Chief Daniel Tushaus says investigators found no suicide note or any other documents that could tell them what led to the shooting rampage yesterday.

He says 44-year-old Terry Ratzmann fired 22 shots, stopping once to reload, and then shot himself at the Sheraton hotel in Brookfield.

Police say about 50 to 60 people were sitting in a meeting room when Ratzmann walked in from the back and started firing. Witnesses told police he didn't say anything before he started firing.

Police searched Ratzmann's home in New Berlin, about two miles from the hotel, and took three computers and found a rifle. But the chief says officers haven't found anything that could tell them what prompted Ratzmann to open fire.

Authorities also say Ratzmann was affiliated with the Living Church of God. The group has been meeting at the hotel every Saturday morning for four or five years.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is identifying the fatalities as:

--58-year-old Richard Reeves of Cudahy

--15-year-old Bart Oliver of Waukesha

--55-year-old Gloria Critari of Cudahy

--a 44-year-old man from Hartford
