The Department of Natural Resources have tallied the number of deer killed during 2004-2005 Wisconsin hunting seasons.
Hunters registered nearly 519,000 deer -- the second-highest total in state history.
The record is about 618,000 deer, taken in 2000.
The D-N-R says hunters set records in several different seasons.
Bow hunters took a record 103,500 deer during the total archery season.
Muzzleloaders took nearly 7,100 deer, also a new mark.
The number of antlerless deer killed went up 52 percent. The number of deer taken with antlers dropped about 30 percent.
The D-N-R estimated the deer population before the hunting season at about 1.4 million.
