Anniversary of Liberation

Many world leaders gathered in Poland Friday to mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz.

The liberation influenced an Altoona man to go out and perform charity work to help those refugees who survived the holocaust.

Meyer Brissman came home from the war and began working for the United Jewish Appeal, where he raised millions of dollars for the rescue, relief, and rehabilitation of prisoners.

Brissman says education about the holocaust is crucial for younger generations.

"If a child doesn't get exposed to the history and understand how it came to pass he/she will not know how to deal with it when it confronts them in the future."

Brissman visited Auschwitz in the 1950's and says it was one of the most horrifying experiences in his life.
