The attack of the helicopter in Iraq is just one reminder of the ongoing dangers American soldiers face there. One member of 128th Infantry from Rice Lake is well aware of that danger.
Nineteen year old Specialist Andy Carter was riding in a humvee convoy 50 miles north of Baghdad when his vehicle was hit by a rocket propelled grenade, sending shrapnel and a metal rod into his foot. Carter returned home to Ladysmith to undergo physical therapy and to recuperate. And he says the time at home leaves him wanting to return.
"It's great to see them all again and that's why i want to be back over there again because there's 37 other guys who don't have that luxury," Carter says.
Carter still talks to his buddies from his platoon through e-mail and instant messenger.
