Marathon County authorities say a new law has slowed manufacturing of methamphetamine in its first year of enforcement.

The law limits the amount of pseudoephedrine a person can buy and makes people sign logs tracking sales.

County sheriff's Lt. Gary Schneck says authorities are not finding meth labs like they used to. He says the number of arrests and cases involving homemade meth was down last year.

He says investigators review the logs and rely on tips from pharmacists and others who may spot large purchases.

Wausau pharmacist Mike Scheidecker says he has refused sales to customers because they wanted to buy a large amount. But he says that's rare.
