Man Who Admittedly Put His Mother's Body in a Freezer Planned For Arrest or Suicide

A La Crosse County man who hid his mother's body in his freezer for years told investigators his money was running out and planned to kill himself or get arrested.

Philip Schuth was taken into custody last week after he allegedly shot his neighbor outside his home on French Island near La Crosse.

Authorities later found what they believe is Schuth's mother in his freezer. Early autopsy results show she apparently died of natural causes.

Schuth told authorities he had enough money to last another five years on her Social Security checks before he would have to get arrested or kill himself.

Investigators are looking at fraud charges as well as charges of concealing a body.
