Returning to the school where he completed his bachelor's degree, Congressman Mark Green announced his plans to run for governor against Jim Doyle in 2006.

Green credits UW-Eau Claire with the education that has benefited not only his 12 year career as a state and federal legislator, but also his personal life. He met his wife, Sue while attending.

At a rally Monday for supporters and other area republicans, Green says he will work to keep Wisconsin on the cutting edge of research and technology, build on the strong tradition of good schools, and put a stop to rising tuition.

"I'll make this pledge to all of you," said Green. "Elect me as your governor and Wisconsin's tax burden will improve or I won't run for re-election. I'll keep my promise or step aside for someone who will."

Green will face Milwaukee County executive Scott Walker in the republican primary in September of 2006.
