City Council Meeting

The Eau Claire City Council voted Tuesday night to become the fourth Wisconsin city to raise its minimum wage higher than the state level.

The approval came even though it appears a deal in Madison would make such local ordinances null and void.

In a six to four vote, the council voted to raise Eau Claire's minimum wage in three stages from the current $5.15 an hour to $5.65 July 1 to $6.15 February 1 and to $6.65 July 1, 2006.

The council then voted to reconsider an amendment to a development planned for Eau Claire's east side.

Two weeks ago the City Council voted down an amendment to increase the height of two proposed condominium towers for the Waterford Project.

Tuesday night council member Bob Von Haden re-introduced the amendment for reconsideration, but asked council members to put off the vote until after the developers and the neighborhood have met to try to reach a compromise that might result in changes to the amendment.

The council is expected to vote on the reconsidered amendment at their next meeting, June 14.
