Four children hurt after "explosion" at campsite in Houston County

(PRESS RELEASE FROM HOUSTON CO. SHERIFF'S OFFICE) ---
At 9:20 pm the Houston County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of a campfire "explosion" at the Money Creek Haven Campground. The Sheriff's Office responded along with the Houston Ambulance, Houston Fire Department, Tri-State Ambulance, MedLink, and Mayo One.

A four year old female was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul by Mayo One helicopter, one juvenile male was transported by MedLink helicopter to Gundersen in La Crosse, and two other juveniles were transported by Tri-State ambulance to Gundersen in La Crosse. One adult male refused transport. The extent of injuries are unknown.

The injuries were the result of an accelerant being poured on a smoldering fire by an adult member of the camping group. The accelerant ignited catching the container on fire as well.

The Sheriff's Office would like to remind everyone of the dangers of using accelerants in this manner and to please be safe over the holiday week.
