Teen dies in Barron County crash

(WEAU)-A teenager is dead after a crash in Barron County.

On Friday around 5:45 p.m., the sheriff's department responded to a one vehicle crash at the intersection of 5th Street and 26 ½ Avenue, north of Cumberland in the Town of Maple Plain.

Deputies say they found a truck had been driving south on 5th Street and failed to stop at a stop sign, hit the ditch and then an embankment, causing one of three people to be thrown from the truck.

The driver, Wade Richey, 22, from Spooner refused medical attention at the scene, but was later taken to Cumberland Hospital with unknown injuries. Joseph Rauch, 14, from Birchwood, was thrown from the truck and was taken to Cumberland Hospital with severe injuries. Triston Sager, 15, from Birchwood, was not thrown from the truck, but was in the box area of it. He was taken to Cumberland Hospital and later to Regions Hospital with severe injuries. Sager later died from his injuries.

The crash is still under investigation by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department but, the initial interview of the driver stated there was a vehicle malfunction.
