The Chippewa Falls City Council approved borrowing $305,000 to buy a new fire truck Tuesday night.

Fire Chief Tom Larson says the new truck will replace an engine from 1985 that is rusted out and leaks water.

Chief Larson says the trucks are usually replaced every 20 years, but because of tight budgets, the purchase was postponed until now.

He says the new engine has a state of the art pumper and tank, but says the department did save money by going with a three-man cab. The department's other two trucks can fit six firefighters.

He says the truck is great for the community.

The Council also approved spending 27,000 to remodel the skate board park. The city will bond out the money. City leaders say the current skate park is worn down, but still in high demand, despite its condition. As we first told you last year, the other half of the money was donated.
