A pathologist says the UW-Madison grad student who died after running the Little Rock Marathon had a heart condition usually seen in older people.

Twenty-seven-year-old Adam Nickel collapsed after finishing the race in Arkansas March 2nd.

Dr. Stephen Erickson says an autopsy shows Nickel had an abnormality in his heart muscle.

He adds that it would have been undetected in a routine physical exam.

A medical examiner says if nickel hadn't been a runner, the small arteries in his heart might not have caused problems for some time.
