Four Eau Claire County teens are facing felony charges after investigators say they threw objects at passing semis along one of the construction zones of Interstate 94 in Eau Claire.
The driver of one semi had tiny particles of a shattered windshield in his eye. Now law enforcement is asking the public to report any roadside vandalism they come across.
On April 6th, Josh Hartung was about a half-hour into a fairly long haul. Menomonie to Chicago for his route with Superb Trucking of Menomonie. His supervisor, Dennis Nelson, told us that Hartung encountered a person in a black coat who threw a softball-sized rock through the windshield as he was driving east on I-94.
Hartung gathered himself but still needed a hospital to treat a cut on his nose and glass in one eye. Nelson said investigators told him two other semis were hit.
These four teens are now facing felony charges:
- Adam Wolfcale, 17
- Michael Weiland, 18
- Matthew Weiland, 17
- Michael Pederson, 17
Matthew Weiland is charged with a total of nine felonies, three from this incident and six for bail jumping.
Nelson told us because his driver was in a construction zone and not traveling at 65 MPH, the slower speed may have saved his life.
