La Crosse Stabbing Defendant Claims He Feared For Safety At High School

A teenager accused of stabbing a fellow student at a La Crosse high school says he did so in self defense.

Sixteen-year-old Jeremy Rigelsky says he brought a paring knife to Logan High because he was afraid some students were going to beat him up. Rigelsky told investigators he stabbed 14-year-old John Buarapha after Buarapha punched him.

Rigelsky is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide. He's being held on $100,000 cash bond.

Rigelsky is also charged with burglary. Police say he told them he broke into the home of Philip Schuth the man accused of keeping his dead mother in a basement freezer for nearly five years.

Authorities say Rigelsky told them he took drawings of gang symbols and men with guns from Schuth's French Island home.
