She's upgraded from a Nintendo 64 to a Playstation 2, but 15-year-old Cayla Kluver says she got the idea for her first book from a fantasy video game she played a few years ago.

"I kind of got bored with the plot of the video game so I decided to invent my own. And I went through it, from there on, playing it as though the characters in the video game were in my plot,” Cayla said.

Kluver says her new book, called "Legacy," is a medieval fantasy romance.

"There's something about fantasy that appeals to me I think because it just lets your imagination soar you know. You can do whatever you want. There are no real rules,” she said.

It's a fantasy her mother, Kimberly, says took a while for publishers to pick-up. In fact, Kimberly started her own publishing company just to get "Legacy" on the shelves.

"I like it. I'm almost half way through,” said family friend David Andino.

He says, even though the book is targeted at a young adult audience, anyone could enjoy it.

And if you like the book, Cayla says don't worry, there's more on the way.

"The plot ended up being to complete and long to fit into a reasonably sized book and so we split it into two,” she said.

Cayla's second book, "Allegiance," is due out sometime next year.

"It's fantastic that she could focus all that creativity into something at such an early age,” said Andino.

"I can't picture myself doing anything else. I know this is what I want to do without a doubt,” Cayla said.

So far "Legacy" has gotten the highest rating from two book critics -- one a five star, the other a perfect ten.

Kimberly says Cayla plans on graduating high school early and going to college for creative writing.

Cayla's book is available at Borders in Eau Claire. You can also purchase it online.
