Two people are charged after an elderly woman was found dead in a bathroom in Necedah.
The Juneau County Sheriff's Department says 90-year-old Magdeline Alvina Middlesworth appears to have been dead for about two months. Deputies say 35-year-old Tammy D. Lewis and two children, ages 15 and 12, have been living in the home at W5472 Shrine Road. Lewis and 57-year-old Alan Bushey are charged with causing mental harm to a child.
The District Attorney Scott Southworth says Bushey could face federal charges because the DA says he was depositing two months worth of social security checks. Southworth says Middlesworth had a joint checking account with Bushey. The district attorney calls their organization a "cult."
He's not sure what the relationship is between Middelsworth, Lewis and Bushey. Lewis' children are in protective custody and are in the process of being placed with a foster family. Bond set at $50,000 each for Lewis and Bouchey.
According to the criminal complaint, when Deputies arrived at the home and began questioning Lewis on the whereabouts of Middlesworth, Lewis told them she would have to consult with Bushey, to whom she called her "superior." After Deputies found the body, Lewis told them that when Middlesworth died, God told her she would come back to life if Lewis prayed hard enough.
Deputies visited the home on May 7th, after family members told officers they had not heard from Middlesworth in two months.
