Tuesday morning (today), a Rock County judge approved the release of Mark Staskal to an adult family home in Madison. Staskal is the man who killed his sister in 1984.
Staskal spent 11 days in an Eau Claire group home. He then moved back to a mental health facility in Mendota, near Madison.
The state still has several weeks to finalize the plan before Staskal moves. Prosecutors opposed his release, saying they didn't think the facility could monitor him well enough. The exact location of the facility hasn't been released, but it is a block away from an elementary school. The facility has to constantly monitor Staskal and have staff on duty round the clock.
