Anglers in Fort Atkinson plan to head for the Rock River in a few weeks to protest, not to fish.

They're upset by the Fort Atkinson City Council's recent vote to ban fishing along part of the city's riverwalk.

Among those promoting the protest is Jim Furley of the Rock River-Koshkonong Association. He says people are angry because the council's vote bans fishing on public land, even though the public was greatly opposed to the ban.

Riverfront business owners and users of the riverwalk had complained of anglers leaving litter and debris, relieving themselves in public places, and putting fishing rods and line in a way that blocked the path.

The protest is scheduled the morning of Saturday, June 7th, in the area where fishing is being banned.

The opponents also are considering whether to seek legal action against the ban.
