Nearly one week after a UW Hospital Medical Helicopter crashed near La Crosse, Mayo Clinic Transport hosted an appreciation event for Emergency Medical Service providers.

Sunday starts national EMS week, so Saturday got a chance to see medical helicopters and jets up close.

Flight nurses, paramedics and pilots greeted grown-ups and little one and let them take a look inside their "offices."

Flight medics say their job is demanding but necessary.

They say they work 24-hour, high intensity shifts to save people's lives.

Glenn Lyden, with Mayo, says the Chippewa Valley will be getting a new, updated helicopter in December.
