Wisconsin's Janesville GM Plant Spared

Workers at General Motors' Janesville plant are relieved that their plant has been spared from closure, but their relief is tempered by the fact that 30,000 of their union mates will lose their jobs.

United Auto Workers Local 95 shop chairman John Dohner, Junior, says he's conflicted GM's announcement. He says he's happy for the Janesville workers but concerned for those whose plants will close by 2008.

G-M chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner announced Monday that GM will close nine North American plants in Oklahoma, Michigan, Tennessee, Georgia and Canada.

GM spokeswoman Carolyn Markey says the Janesville workers have already been trained to build the next generation of fuel-efficient SUV's.
