ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Authorities in St. Paul say they've recovered the body of a child missing since a rockslide killed a classmate and left two others injured at a park along the Mississippi River.

Rain-saturated soil gave way Wednesday afternoon as the boy and other fourth-graders from a St. Louis Park elementary school walked along a path in Lilydale Regional Park. They were on a fossil-hunting field trip.

Another child died in the landslide. Authorities say one child remains in serious condition in a hospital.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (AP) -- A St. Louis Park elementary school is making counselors available to students, parents and staff after a field trip to a St. Paul park turned tragic.

Fourth-graders from Peter Hobart Elementary School were visiting Lilydale Regional Park on the bluffs of the Mississippi River on Wednesday when rain-soaked gravel gave way.

One student died and another is missing. Two others were hurt.

School district spokeswoman Sara Thompson says counseling is available at the school. A search for the missing child resumed Thursday.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Recovery efforts have resumed at the site of a fatal landslide in a St. Paul park along the Mississippi Riverl.

A fourth-grade field trip to a Lilydale Regional Park turned deadly Wednesday when gravel saturated by persistent rain gave way, killing one child and injuring two others. WCCO radio says the search for a fourth missing child resumed Thursday morning.

Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard says police and firefighters dug frantically with shovels and their hands to get to the children Wednesday afternoon. He estimated it took an hour to rescue a child buried to the waist, and another half-hour to reach the buried child as more workers and equipment were moved in.

The students were among 49 fourth-graders from two classrooms on the field trip from Peter Hobart Elementary School in St. Louis Park.

The children were at Cherokee Park near the Mississippi River as part of a school field trip.

St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard says the children were exploring the park when the slide happened about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. Zaccard says the ground is soft after several days of rain.

The two rescued children were taken to a local hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known. Zaccard says he doesn't know if the missing child wandered off or was still trapped. Rescue efforts are continuing.

The St. Louis Park school district says the children were from Peter Hobart Elementary School and were part of a 4th grade field trip.
