Wisconsin State Employees Ordered To Turn Down The Thermostats

State employees will have to start bringing sweaters to work.

Governor Jim Doyle has ordered that state agencies conserve as much energy as possible -- by turning down thermostats.

Doyle also wants agencies to turn off lights and office equipment on evenings and weekends.

The Capitol building, usually kept at 72 degrees, was turned down to 68 degrees Monday, the lowest allowable temperature under the state building code.

Doyle says the state had expected to spend 10 million dollars more this year because of rising energy costs.

He says the conservation effort will erase some of that increase.
