For Wisconsin troopers, the days of hand writing tickets have ended. The state patrol is now equipped squad cars with "Traffic and Criminal Software" or "TraCS" system.
Troopers have computer technology that loads driver's license and registration information directly onto a blank ticket form, making the process more efficient. The arm rest is equipped with a printer with easy to read reports.
"I don't believe people really enjoy being stopped by the state patrol," says Trooper James Fetherston. "I guess the less time they need to be on the side of the busy interstate with us, the better."
The citations are also sent electronically to the clerk of courts office, cutting down on paperwork and the time to enter citations into their computer system.
The Wisconsin State Patrol issues an estimated one million tickets each year.
