The number of deer harvested this year is up from last year. Last hunting season 303,162 deer were taken state wide by Hunters. This year that number is up to 312,519 and this is just a preliminary result.
The west-central region was also up 6% compared to last year. Officials from the DNR say that a combination of nice weather during opener, the above schedule corn harvest, and the season landing on the deer rutting season contributed to a good hunt.
