Solar-powered Electricity on the Rise

With heating bills going up this winter, solar powered electricity and hot water systems are becoming more and more popular.
The system is not cheap to install. The average electric system costs around $18,000 and a solar water-heating system is another $6,000. But some consumers say the system pays for itself in five or six years.
Add in the rebate from the Wisconsin Focus on Energy Program and a 30 percent Federal tax credit starting January 1, 2006 and a lot of people are giving it a go.
Almost 200 people have applied for the state rebates this year. Only 90 did last year.
