Late last week 10 Cumberland high school students admitted to violating the school's athletic code by possessing and drinking alcohol.
The Cumberland High School principal says this has been a rough couple of weeks for the girls basketball team.
First they lost a teammate in a car crash, and now they've lost most of their varsity team.
The car crash that killed 16-year-old Katie Scheps happened the same weekend her teammates were at a party with alcohol.
The Barron County Sheriff's department is currently investigating Katie's crash.
They say she was on her way home when she lost control and struck a utility pole.
Sheriff Tom Richie says they have not ruled out alcohol as a factor, but also says conditions were bad that night and probably played a part.
Narges says the death and the suspensions have had a tremendous impact on the school, but he says they are trying to stay positive and move on.
As for the cause of Katie’s crash, Richie says they plan to release more information next week.
