Governor Jim Doyle says the state will provide $1 million in energy assistance funds to help needy Wisconsin families cope with rising fuel costs.

Doyle said Thursday the funds will be released to county and tribe officials to help local families on limited incomes meet their energy needs.

The state's home energy assistance program has already provided over $100 million in benefits and helped nearly 160,000 households.

Doyle says the funds will help families avoid having to choose between paying the grocery bill or the energy bill.

I would not qualify myself and my family as "needy", but the cost of fuel will greatly affect us also, and we will not qualify for help. We have already drastically changed how much we drive, eliminating vacations and any extra driving and what we spend our money on. Our daily commute to/from work is really hurting with the price of gas. To fill our propane take for the winter will cause us take out a loan. How about help for everyone by reducing the price!

How can we find out more info on this program?

The State doesn't provide anyting. A 3% fee is charged and added to my taxed energy bill every month for this. Just because I pay without assistance doesn't mean I have an unlimited income. My income has limits, and every time the Fed and State pick my pockets the limits close in. Bill
