Keeping Pseudoephedrine Behind Pharmacy Counters

A new federal law targeting methamphetamine abuse is one step closer to passing the U.S. Senate.
The anti-meth measure is part of the larger Patriot Act Legislation. It would require common cold remedies containing pseudoephedrine to be placed behind store counters. The goal is to prevent meth dealers from buying large quantities of pills to cook the addictive drug in makeshift labs.
Wisconsin is one of dozens of states that already restrict the sale of cold medicines. But lawmakers say a uniform measure is needed.
Both houses of Congress are expected to pass the law early next month.
