A young survivor of the tornado that ripped through Hugo, Minnesota in May continues a long recovery at Gillette Children's Hospital in St. Paul.

Five-year-old Annika Prindle has a severe brain injury after losing oxygen for a time when the storm hit her family's home.

Her two-year-old brother Nate died in the tornado.

Annika's condition has improved so she can open her eyes and is fed with a tube to her stomach.

Doctors say it might take a year for her vision to return, but she can already recognize her parents' voices.

My heart goes out to Annika and her family. What a horrible tragedy to lose a child and have another injured in such a way. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
