A Mapleton woman accused in the deaths of more than 20 dogs in Nebraska is now facing charges for a similar discovery in western Iowa.
The Monona County Sheriff's Office filed multiple counts of animal abuse and abandonment Tuesday against Denise Withee. Authorities say they received several reports about dogs being dumped around the Onawa area.
Officials say some of the dogs found were in such bad condition they had to be euthanized.
Withee is currently undergoing mental evaluation in Kearney, Neb. Authorities say their investigation will continue and that more charges or arrests are possible.
