A database that allows Wisconsin elections officials to better ensure only eligible voters cast ballots is up and running.
Wisconsin's Elections Division says officials can now use the database to keep ineligible felons and deceased voters off the rolls.
The database links voter information with records from the Transportation, Corrections and Health Services departments.
It was supposed to be ready years ago, but technical problems have delayed implementation. State officials have instead distributed lists of felons and deceased individuals to clerks.
Government Accountability Board director Kevin Kennedy says the database will allow quicker and more accurate checks that will improve the trustworthiness of elections.
