Parents of students in the former Russell school district say their children's records, including medical information, have been thrown away or sold at auction.

The school was cleaned out after it closed earlier this summer. The state decided in March to close the school because of financial problems.

Officials with the Chariton school district, which took over the Russell school and many of its students, say the building was cleaned out last month so it could be sold.

Chariton Superintendent Paula Wright says she doesn't believe records were disposed of and that she tried to ensure records were handled appropriately.

Wright also says the parents who are complaining are disgruntled over the school's closing and are looking for something to be upset about.
